                          Other Skills

With our experience and wide range of skills which can add value to your business, these include:

 Accounts Receivable:

Amounts owed to you impact on your cash flow. Without close monitoring and management you may  need to seek external funding which will incur interest charges. We can assist by reducing your exposure and advising you on action to take against delinquent accounts. (see cash flow)

Accounts Payable

Amounts to be paid have just as great impact as collections. For your business to function efficiently you need to ensure a consistency of  supply from your service/product suppliers. We can review your suppliers terms and possibly negotiate favourable terms. (see cash flow)

Asset Register.

Many opportunities to add value depend upon compiling a detailed asset register. The level of detail required will be determined by the future plans for the property/equipment taking into account:

  • Expected duration of ownership

  • Planned future capital expenditure

  • Age and condition of existing building and equipment.

  • Cost of producing the register versus the potential to add value

The most important role played by an asset register is to provide a basis for the analysis of vital property/equipment information. Well informed decision making requires access to reliable data.

Budgets

Why budget? The main benefit of budgeting is that it is easier to see whether that we are living within our means. In setting a budget we take into account all planned income and expenses for the full year and break it down by month. An accrual financial statements reflects the full cost of service provision (including depreciation) and discloses all financial obligations incurred each year (such as superannuation and long service leave liabilities), even if the cash costs will arise in future years. Generally we like to see both committed ( salary , wages, rates etc) and discretionary (travel, entertaining) expenses and be able to adjust these to match income.

Business Activity Statements (BAS)

Always in a rush to meet your BAS deadline? We have the tools and skills to do this for you and warn you of when it is due.

Business Planning. (See planning)

Cash flow Management

One of the most difficult aspects of running a business is maintaining a balanced cash flow. This involves forecasting cash coming in (positive) versus cash going out (negative) and ensuring that the business always maintains a positive cash flow. We have built models which have allowed businesses to plan ahead the funding requirements for major spending on capital projects.

Costing

One key element in s business environment is knowing your cost base. This involves know ongoing costs of products and service you supply. Our experience has shown that most business are aware of their costs at a higher level but are unaware of the impact that a product and service mix has. We have the skills to unravel this for you and can advise you of the best cost basis to use. Our knowledge base includes the following costing methods.

FIFO (first in First out)

Average

ABC (Activity Based Costing)

Total absorption.

Inventory Management

Inventory is one of those working capital items which tend to run away and are a great consumer of cash and storage space. Ever wondered what the real cost of holding some inventory items are? We can assist with the management by analysing your stocking levels versus your sales and identify which products need to be dumped or moved quickly. Perhaps your warehouse needs organising?

Payroll

One of the most sensitive areas within a business is maintaining the confidentiality of the payroll. Many businesses alleviate this problem by outsourcing this function. We have the skills and the software to handle electronic bank transfers.

Planning

Failing to plan is planning to fail. Studies from Monash university have shown that "Many businesses are still relying on intuition and luck for their long-term survival". Planning provides the 'big picture', allowing an organisation to develop implementation, control and feedback systems. And to be effective, it should be a working document that is frequently reviewed and revised rather than a one-off effort that sits on the shelf. Rapid growth can sometimes be the 'kiss of death', especially for small businesses as they are usually ill-prepared to manage the process, Fast and uncontrolled growth can devastate a business's resources. In the short-term it can lead to severe cash-flow problems. We can put together a working business plan and review it with you at regular intervals.

Policy & Procedures.

How often do you employ  staff only to find that you have to have  someone sit with them and explain the business procedures to them. We have developed policy and procedures which become an employee's manual and describe the workplace policies and covers areas such as : office workflow, travelling and entertainment, complaints procedure, OHS, sexual harassment, records management, racial discrimination, duty of care and many others.

Reporting.

Most computerised systems have standard reporting packages, in many cases these do not provide the information that you require to run your business. We can evaluate your requirements and system and build  reporting system that will work for you.
