Budgets Why budget? The main benefit of budgeting is that it is easier to see whether that we are living within our means. In setting a budget we take into account all planned income and expenses for the full year and break it down by month. An accrual financial statements reflects the full cost of service provision (including depreciation) and discloses all financial obligations incurred each year (such as superannuation and long service leave liabilities), even if the cash costs will arise in future years. Generally we like to see both committed ( salary , wages, rates etc) and discretionary (travel, entertaining) expenses and be able to adjust these to match income.
